Telenor is bringing together its domestic and international Internet of Things (IoT) operations under a single brand, the aptly named Telenor IoT. Telenor IoT will encompass both the telco’s Nordic IoT portfolio and its global Telenor Connexion portfolio.

Smith Micro Software, Inc. (the "Company" or "Smith Micro") (NASDAQ: SMSI) and Avast plc ("Avast") (LSE: AVST) today announced a definitive agreement under which Smith Micro will acquire Avast's Family Safety Mobile Business. The acquisition encompasses Avast's portfolio of mobile parental controls services including location features, content filtering and screen time management, and will cement Smith Micro as a market leader in delivering family mobile software solutions to the carrier industry.

In this article I explain how changing requirements for IoT necessitate a new approach to connectivity and how a new hyperscale approach can save enterprises over $100 billion in operational costs.

Transforma Insights published a White Paper, written in collaboration with network operator Telia, which finds that companies could save US$117 billion (€96.57 billion)by using a ‘Hyperscale IoT Connectivity’ solution. This equates to 28% of IoT connectivity costs.

CES this year was, of course, a very different beast from usual. However, despite being entirely virtual there was a flurry of interesting and noteworthy announcements from the ‘show’. In this article I explore a selection of them which demonstrated some very interesting trends in what is happening in IoT.

Digital transformation (DX) is a type of disruption. It will unlock new possibilities in business models, value propositions and operational efficiency. Competitive dynamics will ensure that entire industries must transform to become a market leader or keep pace with market leaders, or face loss of market share. As ever, this kind of disruption is not risk-free.
