Device Management Platforms (DMPs) have traditionally existed to support some kind of ‘extra’ functionality when managing IoT devices. However, change is afoot, and we are seeing the emergence of a more sophisticated kind of DMP that is better able to support Application Enablement Platforms (AEPs) that focus more on Edge Computing capabilities and how these interwork with the cloud.
Device Management Platforms (DMPs) have traditionally existed to support some kind of ‘extra’ functionality when managing IoT devices. Typically, DMP capabilities have been developed as a necessity, due to the fact that relevant functionalities have not been sufficiently widely adopted within the wider IoT ecosystem, although today there is also a range of dedicated DMP specialists in the market allowing certain players to essentially outsource their device management requirements.
However, change is afoot, and we are seeing the emergence of a more sophisticated kind of DMP that is better able to support Application Enablement Platforms (AEPs) that focus more on Edge Computing capabilities and how these interwork with the cloud.
