At the beginning of 2025, Transforma Insights identified the evolving landscape for satellite IoT connectivity as one of its ten IoT ‘Transition Topics’ for the year, anticipating significant change in the sector. And so it has proved, with new technology developments, changing commercial models and shifting approaches to regulation and licensing.
On the 11th November 2025, Transforma Insights and Globalstar delivered a webinar exploring several aspects of these developments. Most importantly examined the potential pitfalls of considering the satellite IoT as a homogenous single market. The reality is that there is a wide variety of different use cases that might be addressed by satellite, each with their own particular deployment characteristics. And, as the counterpoint to that, a diverse set of propositions from vendors of satellite-based IoT connectivity that can be used to address them, with greater or lesser effectiveness depending on factors such as geographical footprint, data volumes, latency, cost and energy efficiency. There is no one-size-fits-all satellite technology that can address every use case and ensuring application/proposition fit is critical.
During the webinar, Matt Hatton, Founding Partner of Transforma Insights, and Martin Jefferson, Global Solutions Architect at Globalstar, addressed topics including:
And much more.
