The use of satellite constellations to support Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity is attracting increasing attention, courtesy of the availability of Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) as part of the 5G standard, budding interest from Starlink in addressing the opportunity, and a general increase in awareness of the use of satellite, courtesy of the growing direct-to-device offerings.
Transforma Insights has long tracked the satellite IoT opportunity, including quantitatively in our IoT Forecasts. Qualitatively, in January and February 2022, Transforma Insights published a pair of reports on satellite connectivity for IoT. The first report examined the technology landscape, while the second comprised a market landscape for LEO (and GEO) satellite operators .
