In January 2022 Sigfox filed for bankruptcy protection in France, bringing down the curtain on a colourful era that saw the company’s vision essentially establish the concept of Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) networking for IoT. In April 2022 Singapore headquartered Sigfox Network Operator UnaBiz purchased Sigfox with a view to maintaining the existing Sigfox proposition whilst adopting a new strategic direction. This report examines the coming pivot to solutions and the three key changes in positioning that UnaBiz plans to make to Sigfox.

IoT SIM Applet For secure End-to-end communication (IoT SAFE) has been developed by the GSM Association to allow for the use of the SIM card as a standardised hardware ‘Root of Trust’. In this report we examine how IoT SAFE works, the benefits that arise from using it, and its limitations. In so doing, we explore what the likely prognosis is for adoption and success of this emerging new technology.
